《法華經》卷一.〈序品〉第一
韋提希子、阿闍世王,
與若干百千眷屬俱。
與人王眾諸眷屬也。[4]
各禮佛足,
以手接足,禮拜於佛。[5]
退坐一面。
禮已,退身,就一而坐。[6]
[1] 韋提希:梵名 Vaidehī,巴利名
Vedehī。又作鞞陀提夫人、毘提希夫人、吠提哂夫人。意譯為思勝夫人、勝妙身夫人、勝身夫人。中印度摩揭陀國頻婆娑羅王之夫人,阿闍世王之生母。依《觀無量壽經》所載,阿闍世將其父王頻婆娑羅幽閉於七重之室內,企圖將其餓死,夫人以酥蜜和麨塗於身,諸瓔珞盛漿,往探頻婆娑羅,而觸怒於阿闍世,故亦被禁。兩人乃於禁閉處念佛,求佛為之說法,佛遂顯神通,為之演說《觀無量壽經》。故知淨土法門,乃佛因韋提希夫人而說。

阿闍世:Ajātaśatru, 阿闍貰;
阿闍多設咄路; 未生怨
'Enemy before birth'; a king of Magadha whose father, Bimbisāra, is said to
have sought to kill him as ill-omened. When grown up he killed his father and
ascended the throne. At first inimical to Śākyamuni, later he was converted and
became noted for his liberality; died circa 519 B.C. Also called 'Broken
fingers' and Kṣemadarśin. His son and successor was Udāyi; and a daughter was ?
Aśu-dharā. According to a Tibetan legend an infant son of Ajātaśatru was
kidnapped, or exposed, and finally became king of Tibet named ~Na-khri-btsan-po.
阿闍世,梵名 Ajātaśatru,巴利名 Ajātasattu。為佛世時中印度摩揭陀國頻婆娑羅王(梵 Bimbisāra)
之子。略作闍世王。又作阿闍多沙兜樓王、阿闍貰王、阿闍多設咄路王、阿社多設咄路王。意譯未生怨王、法逆王。其母名韋提希,故亦稱阿闍世韋提希子。後弒父 王自立,大張中印度霸權。其於處母胎時,占師預言此子降生後將弒父,父王聽占師預言,十分驚恐,遂自樓上將之投棄,然僅折斷手指而未死,故又稱婆羅留支 (梵
Balaruci,折指之義),並以其未生前即已結怨,而稱之為未生怨。
及長,立為太子,因聽信提婆達多之唆使,幽禁父王於地牢中,欲致之死。即位後,併吞鄰近諸小國,威震四方,奠定印度統一之基礎。後因弒父之罪而遍體生 瘡,至佛前懺悔即平癒,遂皈依佛陀。佛陀滅度後,為佛教教團之大護法。摩訶迦葉於七葉窟結集經典時,阿闍世王為大檀越,供給一切之資具。
